Here are two of the vital questions you need to ask yourself:

Question #1

So what do you want?

These are the famous words of Olivia Pope from the American political thriller Scandal. She asks this question to each of her clients because that’s what you want to work toward, right? No one wants their work to be in vain.

You mind be tempted to start spouting off different technologies you want to implement, but keep in mind, technology is a tool that helps you get things done, not the answer to your question. So, you need to break this question down every further by asking yourself two specific questions.

  1. What would you clone if you could? This could be a top leader in your company that knows all of the answers, works diligently and follows all of the policies. Or maybe there is one event every year that truly gets people inspired.
  2. What gives you heartburn? Think about those things that you dread every day. Maybe it’s an operational task or maybe it’s sales. If you could eliminate this one thing, what would it be?

Once you answer these questions, you can now look for digital tools that will help you duplicate the good and/ or solve your big problem!

Question #2

 What does the field want?

“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” – Henry Ford

The point of this quote is that you have to filter your feedback accordingly. Asking is not doing so when you ask the field what they want, make sure to set an expectation upfront that you aren’t going to do everything they ask. Sometimes the field isn’t always the best about articulating the solution.

But as they give you their solution, you can discover their problem. And that is pure gold.
